The Southwestern Illinois Metropolitan and Regional Planning Commission (SIMAPC) is proud to announce the appointment of Wendy J. Pfeil as its new Executive Director. Pfeil brings more than two decades of proven leadership, community engagement, and strategic development experience to the role.
With a professional background rooted in advancing regional growth and civic collaboration, Pfeil most recently served as President & CEO of the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce. During her 16-year tenure with the Chamber, she was instrumental in championing local business development, fostering regional partnerships, and enhancing the economic vitality of the Belleville community.
As Executive Director, Pfeil will lead SIMAPC’s mission to empower communities and guide the coordinated, comprehensive development of the Southwestern Illinois region. Established in 1963 through an act of the Illinois General Assembly, SIMAPC was created to ensure the welfare, health, prosperity, and general well-being of residents through sound planning and strategic development.
“I am honored to join SIMAPC and continue serving the people and communities of Southwestern Illinois,” said Pfeil. “This region has a rich history and incredible potential. I look forward to working with local leaders, planners, and stakeholders to build sustainable growth strategies that improve the quality of life today and into the future.”
SIMAPC is committed to fostering sustainable economic development and creating meaningful opportunities across the region. Under Pfeil’s leadership, the organization will continue to strengthen its efforts in strategic planning, infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and inclusive regional collaboration.
“Wendy brings a deep understanding of regional dynamics and a strong track record of building partnerships that drive meaningful progress,” said Herb Simmons, Chair of the SIMAPC Board. “Her leadership style, commitment to public service, and strategic vision make her exceptionally well-suited to lead SIMAPC as we continue development throughout Southwestern Illinois.”
